Youth Program Excellence Award (11/09)

**Nomination Deadline: November 21, 2007**

ODJFS is once again requesting your assistance in identifying excellent WIA youth programs in Ohio. This is your chance to get recognition for a job well done. Take time now to send in your nominations.

The 2nd Annual Youth Program Excellence Award will honor the work of youth-serving programs that demonstrate excellence in program design, implementation, and results. The award will be presented at the annual Youth Conference in April 2008. (Last year, Marion County's youth program won the Excellence Award!)

Nominations MUST come from the local area (Area 7) youth council chairperson. The Area 7 Youth Committee Chair may nominate up to two programs in each system within Area 7. The nomination form is available by clicking here.

Nominated programs must receive WIA funds, be located in Ohio, and provide at least one WIA youth program element. Nominated programs will be asked to submit an application by January 25, 2008.

Old Cases Need Exited!!! (11/09)

WIA Administrators were e-mailed a spreadsheet put together by the state of participant cases a few months ago that included participants with anticipated exit dates that were long-overdue (from back before soft exits were automatic). Although these cases would not have normally affected your performance because the dates were from previous years and therefore were not able to be reported, there is a possibility that when the state goes through to clean all the old files out, these old cases may be exited into the current year. This means all those old cases could affect your PY07/08 performance.

A new spreadsheet with updated information will be e-mailed to WIA Administrators in the coming weeks. Please use it to exit each of your participants, old and new, with the correct dates so they do not count against current or future performance.

Congratulations, Morrow County (11/09)

(as seen in the November OJFSDA newsletter)

The Morrow County Department of Job and Family Services has been awarded the 2007 Center for Sustainable Communities Award from the National Association of Counties (NACo). The agency received official word of the honor for the Wheels to Work program two weeks ago and will officially receive the award and be honored at a special ceremony in Washington DC in January.

The NACo announcement stated “The award is a testament to Morrow County’s success, innovation and collaboration in creating communities that embody economic vitality, environmental stewardship and social equity.” Furthermore, “Wheels to Work’s selection as an award winner is a tribute to your county leaders, your partners and your community.” We agree!

In addition to receiving the award, Wheels to Work will be the subject of a detailed profile in a NACo best practices publication highlighting the nation’s ten winning initiatives.

Director Don Wake and his agency have done an outstanding job in the development and implementation of this program and the Wheels to Work program is well deserving of this honor. Congratulations Morrow County Department of Job and family Services!
