starWORKFORCE Services Month - September 2008star(7/16)

Deadline has been extended to July 24, 2008.

Ohio is again celebrating September as Workforce Services Month. Funds to assist the workforce investment areas in planning community activities will be awarded up to $7000 for each of the 11 One-Stop systems in Area 7. All the funding requests must come through the Area 7 Administrative Office.

Requests will not be accepted by ODJFS after August 1, 2008. Send your system request to the Area 7 administrative office at area7@clarkstate.edu for review and signatures by July 24, 2008 in order to meet that deadline. This will allow time for any adjustments/corrections to the applications that ODJFS may recommend. Remember the applications must be submitted by system, not by county.

Local areas are encouraged to submit a comprehensive plan using a separate Request Form for each separate event or activity. All procurement measures (federal, state, and local) must be followed.

Click here for form and state WSM letters.

Can You Help? (07/16)

The Montgomery County Department of Job & Family Services is considering developing an initiative designed to strengthen the role and capacity of fathers in low income families, with an emphasis on workforce development. MCDJFS is interested in hearing from county DJFSs or local WIBs who have contemplated or initiated similar programs in order to learn from their experience. Contact Heath MacAlpine, Assistant Director, at macalh@odjfs.state.oh.us or 937-225-5540. Thanks!

The HB-372 Incumbent Worker Training program will provide training grants to Ohio businesses for the purpose of increasing employees' occupational skills and to help Ohio employers remain competitive in the global economy. Career Advancement Accounts Update (07/31)

Congrats, Area 7 Sub-Grantees! You have written over 115 CAA contracts so far, totaling well over $200,000! Check out the tallies at the top of this page to see how your county's CAA usage compares with other Area 7 counties.

As a reminder: please remember to input all CAA customers and services into SCOTI. DOL is monitoring ODJFS next month, so it would be helpful if you could input these customers as soon as possible. For further guidance, visit http://www.ohioworkforce.org/docs/workforceprof/CAATrainingManual.pdf.

ODOD IWT Contract Template (07/24)

ODJFS has provided a contract template to be used between counties and employers participating in ODOD Incumbent Worker Training projects (under HB372). Area 7 has obtained approval to make slight modifications to the template so that the contract will be between the county/sub-grantee and the company (per Area 7's Sub-Grant Agreement). Counties may also add signature lines for prosecutors or commissioners, as needed. Click here for the template.
